Where Compassion On The Move Began
Family Caregiver & Advocate · Community Healthcare Worker · Published Author
It started with my mother.
She was living with dementia, and I became her primary caregiver — learning on the fly, figuring things out as I went, loving her through every stage of the journey. Then my aunt was diagnosed too. And I found myself caregiving for both of them at the same time, still searching for guidance, still feeling like I was navigating without a map.
Then the calls started coming.
Friends. Family. People from my community who were going through the same thing — confused, overwhelmed, and unsure where to turn. They were reaching out because they needed someone who understood. And I did understand. Because I had lived it.
That's when I connected with the Alzheimer's Association, Alter Dementia, and G.L.O.W. — organizations that helped shape my understanding of the caregiving journey and opened my eyes to the education and community that every caregiver deserves.
A proud native of Chester, Pennsylvania, married with three children, published author of God Sightings, and a trained Community Healthcare Worker through DeKalb County, Annette channeled her lived experience into action — and from that love, loss, learning, and community, Compassion On The Move was born.
“COTM exists because no caregiver should have to figure this out alone. Especially in our communities.”

The Problem We're Solving
The Gap We're Closing
Culturally responsive care is not a luxury — it's a necessity. When caregivers can access information and support that reflects their lived experience, families are stronger, outcomes are better, and communities heal. That is why Compassion On The Move meets people where they are, in the language they trust, and with the cultural understanding they deserve.
Black Americans are twice as likely to develop Alzheimer's yet face greater barriers to diagnosis and support.
Millions of family caregivers provide unpaid care with little training or community backup.
Many communities are systematically underrepresented in dementia care resources.
